What is FASD?
FASD is an umbrella term describing the range of effects that can occur in an individual whose mother drank alcohol during pregnancy.
These effects may include physical, mental, behavioral, and/or learning disabilities with possible lifelong implications. Many families and their children living with a FASD come into contact or into the care of a child welfare agency during their lifetime.
Research is showing that early diagnosis and support ensures better outcomes for these children and their families.
The term FASD refers to a spectrum of conditions that includes: fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), partial fetal alcohol spectrum (pFAS), alcohol-related neurodevelopmental disorder (ARND), and alcohol-related birth defects (ARBD).
